Sony has said that it is looking into ways for users to play PSP games on the upcoming NGP device. Digital releases on PlayStation Network as well as re-releases on NGP's new card format were raised as possibilities.Unfortunately the company is already experiencing one major problem in providing back-catalogue PSP titles. Rights issues means that certain games may never be re-released in either digital or physical form. But SCE has told Gigazine that it continues to work with third parties to bring UMD media over to the new platform.
With no plans to offer a UMD Reader of some kind, Sony had nothing to announce regarding the transfer of already-owned UMDs to digital PSN versions, but is looking into it. Given that this was a question raised as far back as the PSP Go's launch in 2009, we'd say the chances of a goodwill system are looking slimmer than Keira Knightley right now.
