Android users, the wait is over - you're definitely getting PlayStation games. Sony announced the incoming launch of PlayStation Suite, an application that gives compatible mobile phones access to a library of digitally-distributed titles over the PlayStation Network.Kaz Hirai revealed the service this morning at the company's PlayStation Meeting conference in Tokyo. Android devices will be able to download and play original PSOne games using touchscreen controls (or, if you believe the
review of the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, real buttons).
No other kinds of games were really hinted at, but it's likely that the PlayStation Suite will be home to a fair few Minis at the very least. The ability to play PlayStation games on Android devices is "hardware-neutral," according to the Sony exec, so you shouldn't have to worry too much about whether X game works with Y model.
In addition to this, PlayStation Suite will be available on the company's upcoming
NGP (Next-Generation Portable) system as well, bridging the gap between the two devices and setting the service up to be something of a trojan horse for Sony's mobile gaming strategy. The PlayStation Suite will be available "within this calendar year."
