Sony claims to have "sold 1 million units of its Move motion-based video game controller in its first month on the market in the Americas region", according to a Reuters report.President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment of America, Jack Tretton, is quoted as saying, "We had to go back and increase production twice, we're absolutely maxed out right now."
However, Rebel FM and IGN's Arthur Gies has
pointed out that, "Sony tells Reuters they've "sold" a million moves in the americas; confirm via PR that these are shipped, not sold".
G4TV follows this up by stating, "Over 1 million PlayStation Move units were shipped in the first month of the motion controller’s release in North and Latin America, Sony Computer Entertainment has announced. Sony didn’t specify exactly how many of those shipped units have been sold, or what the breakdown between North America and Latin America was, which may or may not be telling depending on how skeptical you’d like to be."
So, did
Reuters get the 'Sold' bit confused with 'Shipped'? It's a huge difference both in meaning and in take-up by the people who count, gamers.
