Assassin's Creed Creator Making New IP for THQ
THQ has announced that it will be opening a new studio in Montreal next year - with Assassin's Creed creator Patrice Désilets on board to help develop a brand new IP.

Désilets, who was believed to have been on "a creative break from the industry" following work on Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, is to headhunt for staff to fill positions in his new team before the studio opens next Summer. After that he will create a new game, while a second team will handle an existing IP as a backup plan in case Désilets' project fails.

THQ core games boss Danny Bilson explained to GI that he expects to have a team of over 400 working for the new Montreal outfit within five years.

The news follows the signing of Tomonobu Itagaki's Valhalla Studios for its action game Devil's Third, and Tim Schafer's Double Fine studio for downloadable title Costume Quest. Bilson said that the moves THQ has been making are a serious statement of intent for the publisher's future output.
