A senior buyer from all-round entertainment retailer HMV, James Brooks, has recently said that he believes that this year's Call of Duty:Black Ops will outsell last year's Modern Warfare 2, the UK's best selling game to date. Not really a surprise, given that would benefit retailers and please their shareholders.Brooks highlighted that pre-orders of the latest in the
Call of Duty series are showing "exceptional interest" and that the retailer has nearly sold through stock of the co-exclusive Prestige Edition of the game which on checking HMV.com comes in at a cost-friendly £129.99. Brooks added that:
"Based on all this initial demand and the huge excitement that's clearly being generated, I'd say this title has every chance of being the biggest game release ever."
Call of Duty:Black Ops is also appearing as the top pre-order on known online retailers' sites such as Play.com, GAME and US retailer Gamestop.
The game will still be up against stern competition with
Modern Warfare 2 setting the benchmark, having shipped 1.7m units in the UK alone within five days of the game's release last year. The game went on to sell a total of 11.86m copies by the end of 2009.
Hope you're taking your claim to the bookies Mr. Brooks.
