LoveFilm Loves PS3 with New App
The online film and game rental service LoveFilm is hitting the Playstation 3 next month with a new application to run from the XMB.

PS3 users will be able to download an application that enable subscribers to the service to stream SD and HD movies to their consoles. Free trials of the new service for PS3 will also be made available upon launch of the application.

Lets hope you don't have to wait five hours to watch half of a crap film though!

Doesn't that depend almost entirely on the speed of your connection and the film you've chosen to watch?

Okay, here's one for you. With Sony partnering with Google to embed the Google TV service in their TVs and Blu-ray players, can we expect a Google TV app to sit alongside iPlayer and the iTV and Lovefilm apps?

that is brilliant news. even with a standard subscription there are some great films to watch for free under the love film. things like Old Boy and infernal affairs. granted they are mostly foreign or indie films.
I think this kind of functionality is a real boost to the PS3. lets hope you can download films so you don't have to stream them!

Here's a thing - in the US, to use the Netflix app on you have to put the Netflix disc in the PS3.

I assume it's some attempt to placate the dinosaurs at the movie studios.

Wonder if such baffling mentalism will be unleashed for this service.

Also, if I (or more likely, my wife) falls asleep while watching a movie, can we come back to it next weekend on the same ticket or do I have to cough up again?

Another kick in the Microsoft balls. I'd love this on the 360 but unless MS announce the same soon I fear they will have been beaten to it again.

As for speed. Zune marketplace allows you to stream pretty much right away in HD and it looks ace. I've got a good broadband connection though :-)
