If any proof was needed of Call of Duty's brand power following the Infinity Ward-Activision debacle, this is it - US retailer GameStop has revealed that pre-orders for the upcoming Black Ops has reached record numbers, beating those of blockbuster smash Modern Warfare 2 last year.
Such numbers add weight to the prediction that Treyarch's latest war game will actually outperform Infinity Ward's 2009 hit at retail - a pretty stunning feat, given the industry records it set.
GameStop's SVP of merchandising, Bob McKenzie, said that the company "is tracking to all-time, record reservations on Call of Duty: Black Ops. We are ahead of where we were with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 last year, which previously set the industry standard."
It's only a few weeks away. Excited?
