Activision CEO, Robert - Bobby - Kotick has slammed the idea of gamers paying additional costs for online gaming.Kotick was speaking at the Bank of America/Merrill Lynch's Media conference in the States when he told the crowd that gamers are paying $60 a game should not be asked to pay more for the online experience "They get a game that has a lot of replayability," he stated.
Turning down additional revenue can't please Activision stockholders though can it? Said Mr Kotick, "We've seen our margins and audiences expand from providing more appealing gameplay. I think why
Call of Duty has been so successful is because we're delivering extraordinarily high quality gameplay, production values and interactivity at great value."
He then appeared to snub yet another stream of cash - and possibly have a pop at arch-rivals EA - by stating, "There was a time when we thought sponsorship or advertising was a big opportunity but what we realised is that when our customers are paying $60 on a game or a subscription fee, they don't really want to be barraged with sponsorship or advertising."
