Valve has released a hardware survey for its Steam users, and has found that the number of Mac OS X users is declining.5.07 per cent of all machines running the digital distribution service were on Apple's OS, compared to 8.13 in June, its launch month. That's a decline of 1.27 per cent, whereas Windows 7 users increased by 1.94 per cent.
Of course, it's good to keep a rather sensible head about these figures and understand their context. Since the launch of the Mac OS X Steam client, the release of new games on the platform have been extremely thin on the ground. It's no wonder there's a decline when there's minimal product for the audience to purchase.
It's an issue that Valve has already spoken about, with director of business development Jason Holtman explaining that a
resurgence in Mac gaming won't be seen until 2011, when developers start aligning their schedules to plan for same-day OS X versions of their PC products.
