Sony's 3.4.1 firmware update for the PS3 came down fast didn't it? That's because it's been tweaked so that it doesn't have to carry every single other update along with its file. Yup, incremental updates.According to a poster on
PS3news "there is a new PS3PATCH.PUP update that is about 40mb, and is just the incremental update (few files from dev flash, along with the core os, the revoke lists and syscon updates) - which, is probably for a few reasons.
"One of which being - its less stress for everyone, Sony's servers, bandwidth, people downloading etc. Furthermore, helps with the new Auto Update stuff in PSN+ - less data to download."
In short, you don't have to download every single update there's ever been if you're merely installing the latest update.
