Japan Games Hardware: Wii Parties to the Top
The success of Wii Party helps Nintendo extend its lead over Sony in this week's Japanese Hardware Chart (5th - 11th July 2010, courtesy Media Create). While the Wii sees a considerable boost in unit sales, the same can't be said for the PS3 despite the popularity of a new White Knight Chronicles title.

Home Console
Wii: 24,604 (21,964)
PS3: 18,345 (20,077)
360: 5,688 (7,303)
PS2: 1,558 (1,594)

Handheld
DSi LL: 28,916 (32,661)
PSP: 24,421 (24,685)
DSi: 17,356 (18,271)
DS Lite: 4,992 (5,339)
PSP Go: 1,046 (1,024)

(Previous week's unit sales in brackets for comparison)

Crackdown 2's entry into the software chart doesn't help Microsoft shift any more Xbox 360s, unfortunately, while the PlayStation 2 sees a tiny drop in sales as well. On the handheld side, the effects of the price cuts made to the DS family is starting to fade, with each iteration of the platform selling fewer units than last week.

The DSi LL's near-29,000 units puts it within marking distance of the PSP 3000, which could do with another big hitter to push it back to the top of the handheld chart. Let's see what the rest of the Summer comes up with, shall we?
