White Knight Chronicles 2 features an online multiplayer mode. Said multiplayer mode may be the beginning of an attempt by Sony to lock out pre-owned players, if recent chatter is to be believed.NeoGAF users have noticed that online play will require a Geonet subscription in Japan, which is included in the box. That subscription can only be tied to one PlayStation Network account, meaning that if you pass the game on, future players will need to shell out a bit more cash to purchase another unlock code.
The inclusion of such a feature follows moves made by Ubisoft, EA and SEGA to stave off the sale of pre-owned video games. Codes for exclusive bonus content for new game buyers have been met with a mixed reaction from both gamers and industry alike.
Of course, this could just be a regional thing for the Japanese version, or it could just be the result of a third party subscription service necessitating such terms. Either way, this could very well be a one-off. When we start having to put codes into our
Resitance 3s and
ModNation Racers 4s, then we should get worried.
