The Wii can be played sitting down. The same is likely to be true for the PlayStation Move. For Microsoft's Kinect, that's not so certain - conflicting information has been flying around about how players will be able to interact with the device.According to
IGN, Microsoft said you can play some games sitting down depending on the kind of game you're playing. "However, several developers giving us demos have said the exact opposite. Sometimes the contradiction comes from the same person--one day telling us you have to be standing and then the next saying everything can be done while sitting," notes fellow scribe Hilary Goldstein.
Other concerns about the hardware involved voice recognition - the peripheral had trouble hearing the voices of demo users, and when it came to accents it floundered.
Kotaku also pointed out how other members in the room could "troll" your Kinect experience, due to the fact that the device does not recognise different people's voices.
Voice issues would likely to be fixed in some kind of update patch, whilst the standing up thing could be fixed by simply making games that allow you to sit down. But if the latter is a technical issue, we're not sure that many players will want to use Kinect standing up just to access music and videos.
