PS3 Move - 22ms Lag but Better Than Wii
The Australian press was given a glimpse and a hold of the PS3's Move motion controller recently and ITWire's Mike Bantick was quite impressed.

The event, presented by Michael Ephraim, Managing Director of Sony Computer Entertainment Australia and New Zealand, showed off 3D as well as Move. The latter was displayed in an archery game and another title.

"The other game used a single Move controller only – I did not see the third component, the Sidekick at the demonstration. In this game I got the chance to swat bugs on the screen, with my hand (holding the Move) turned into a tennis racquet.

"This game highlighted the slight lag between actions and on-screen reaction, Sony says this is 22 ms, and it is a little noticeable. On the plus side however the accuracy of movement puts this motion controller above the Wii experience," says Bantick.

As long as Move provides easy trophies I will buy it...

But the game he noticed the lag on is also processing an augmented reality overlay which takes a lot more processing power. Sony have already said casual games that use real-time overlay effects will be slightly more laggy than the raw controller input due to the additional processing, likewise some casual games are purposely 'smoothed' out to make them more user friendly. The raw Move input when used in games like SOCOM is much more accurate, to the point that it picks up the minor shakes your hand makes. If you don't notice lag when playing with a wireless DualShock 3 then you won't notice lag when playing with Move...

Watch the BBC preview and note the lag. And the bit it loses tracking of the controller completely.

I watched that bbc video, well for one...He was alittle far back from the screen, which is why it probably didnt pick up sometimes and i wonder if the lag on screen is similar to how you would get lag on the Drum kits for guitar hero world tour and rock band, where you need to sync the drums to the screen before hand because Tvs have different respond rates etc.
