PS3 Firmware Update 3.30 Adds Trophy Sorting - Readies 3D
Sony released a new firmware update for PlayStation 3 users last night, which adds sorting options for Trophies achieved on your PlayStation Network account. Okay, so it's not exactly in-game voice chat, but at least it's an update that adds rather than takes away.

The Trophies you earn can be arranged as you please in the Trophy Collection and Compare Trophies options on the XMB. They can all be organised by Trophy value, game name or date of the last one achieved - you can also arrange add-on Trophies separately too.

3D game support is also prepared for in this firmware update, in the lead-up to the first wave of 3D-capable TVs going on sale. It is believed that Sony will not support 3D Blu-rays initially, although our friends at The Sixth Axis have reason to believe Sony has tweaked some elements of movie support in this update too.

The software update is mandatory, and will be required for install when you next turn on your PlayStation 3.

Hey i just thought, if people who still have the 3.15 Firmware with the "Other OS" feature update to this new firmware, would they still lose the feature or have Sony forgotten and allowed the feature to be passed over?

You'd roll through all the updates you missed to get to the latest one. So if you didn't download 3.21 and opted to install 3.30, you'd auto-install 3.21 before going onto 3.30.

As far as I understand it, the PS3 updates are all-in-one-go updates, rather than a set of changes that are applied sequentially. This is why the firmware downloads take so long as you're replacing the entire firmware each time and not just patching small parts of it.

In which case, upgrading from 3.15 to 3.30 will remove OtherOS support at the same time as adding Trophy sorting, etc.

Ah, no wonder it takes ages to install. :) I thought it would be one-by-one; made most sense to me, but then I guess in some way would having a setup like that make it more vulnerable somehow? Or just less convenient on Sony's part?
