PSN Users Experiencing Free Content Code Scams
PlayStation Network users are allegedly being hit with an email scam that is resulting in the unauthorised purchase of online store content. One instance saw a user of IronStar Movement's on-file credit card charged to the sum of $350.

The scam is said to work like this; chain letters purporting to be from online friends are sent to PSN victims using the email address on their account. When opened, the message claims to offer free PSN downloads via an online code generator. Those who follow the instructions then allow malicious users to abuse whatever method of payment the victim has on file.

IronStar doesn't mention specifically whether the chain mail is designed to look like an official Sony PlayStation bulletin or not; but we'd imagine this would be the case. Gamers aren't that stupid, right..?

If you believe you have one of these emails, it's worth following the instructions laid out on the IronStar website, just to be safe. SPOnG has asked Sony for further comment to see if this has affected any European users.
