Xbox 360 'Slim' Touted

New chip indicates new 360 form

Xbox 360 'Slim' Touted
Intel provides processors for the Xbox 360. Intel has a new 32nm chip codenamed 'Clarksdale' that combines CPU and GPU. A Chinese website has displayed what looks like a new Xbox 360 board with what could be the Clarksdale. Bingo!

Actually, given that Microsoft is readying Natal for a huge marketing campaign in the lead-up to the 'The Holidays', and the company wants to get the price firmly in budget for hard-pressed households, a more efficient, slightly smaller 360 would sit very nicely.

Kotaku surmises that "Making things juicier is word from the same source that this reduction is part of a redesign for the Xbox 360 console, testing of which has recently been completed in China. Think the PS3 Slim, only... for an Xbox 360."

Still, Chinese message board... that kind of lead never turned up anything like, well, a PS3 Slim did it?

Sounds good. May have to get off the fence soon and buy one.

Recently saw a PS3 Slim for the first time. It's the most
inappropriately named console ever. It's huge ...and ugly.

Though the 360's GPU was from ATI - now AMD? Surely Intel won't be allowed to see that design, so it's anew GPU then? Bet that doesn't cause any issues!

LMAO. You can't have someone who doesn't know s**t writing about this. Intel's Clarksdale architecture has NOTHING in relation to the Xbox 360's Xenos and Xenon (CPU and GPU, respectively).

What we can speculate is that whoever's making the Clarksdale (which is 32 nm) may also be contracted to make the new Xbox 360 chip. They're a semiconductor company, like TSMC and Chartered (Chartered currently makes the chip for the Xbox 360). The new chip isn't Intel (obviously, only ignorants would say so).

360 slim? lets see how this plays out then shall we? i was recently thinking of buying a 360 but if a slim version is on the way, i shall wait for it. lets hope they fix teh faults of the old model. the ps3 slim (which i have) is just a very big square, its wider thna the old model but shorter and lower and teh matt black finish isn't as nice as teh mk1. however no worries of scratches :) i still dont like it, only got it for GT5 and GOW3, plus a few other titles...

How many versions of Xbox 360 do you think we'll have by the end of the console's life-span? I bought an Xbox 360 arcade just a year ago, which by the way, was supposed to be a quieter, more energy efficient console than the original Xbox 360. Now we're getting another quieter, more energy efficient version. What ever happened to the good old days when consoles weren't released with so many problems that they needed to be replaced with newer versions that simply have less problems than the original? What kind of message is Microsoft sending to first-time console buyers?!

PS: If you don't like the look of PS3 slim, then just cover it with big stickers or something.
