Sony Computer Entertainment has just filed a patent for the name 'PlayStation Arc' in Japan, adding more weight to suggestions that this could be the final name of its motion controller.
Since its reveal at E3 2009, Sony's motion controller for the PlayStation 3 has not been given an official name, yet various nicknames had been used by executives and developers - including Gem and Arc.
Looking a bit like a Wii Remote with a sphere on top, the motion controller works in tandem with the PlayStation Eye device to more accurately detect movement in 3D space. It is expected to arrive this Autumn, in close quarters with Microsoft's own motion sensing peripheral, Natal.
Sony could well be gearing for a full unveil of the technology and software at E3 2010 - we should be able to discover the true name to the device then. Excited?
