Nintendo president, Satoru Iwata, is about as impressed as we are about Apple's much-vaunted iPad tablet. He tells the
New York Times that the iPad, is "a bigger iPod Touch" and "'There were no surprises for me" in the announcement.
Iwata doesn't stop there with his tirade (okay, his laid back dissing) of technology. HD for Wii? Motion sensor of the DS? "'I question whether those features would be enough to get people to buy new machines", he says. He also states that Nintendo is working on new hardware - in the same way as Heinz is working on new food and Ford is working on new cars - so nothing to get too hot under the collar about right now.
Of the 3D revolution heralded by James Cameron's
Avatar? Basically it's a big "Yeah right!" from the great man, "'I have doubts whether people will be wearing glasses to play games at home. How is that going to look to other people?'' Even we've got to feel that this is a bit rich coming from Nintendo.
For it's part, Sony via John Koller, sees the iPad as a gateway machine, "Apple's entrance into the portable gaming space has been a net positive for Sony When people want a deeper, richer console, they start playing on a PSP", he told Fox.
