The Tester is a 'reality competition' coming to the PlayStation Network on February 18th. It's apparently your chance to audition, X-Factor style, in front of a panel of worthies including SPOnG fave, David Jaffe, to become a game tester.

There's loads of info about the 'show' over here. But we'd like to concentrate on one of the hosts: Meredith Molinari because, well... here's what we're told about her:

"Experienced model and host of multiple online music shows, Meredith Molinari loves spending her time off-camera with her two dogs, or expressing herself through abstract painting and found art sculptures. Meredith also dedicates time to the non-profit organization, Jewish World Watch.

"Don't let the modeling portfolio and her work in the music industry fool you, Meredith's crazy for RPG and unwinds with some Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and also Tekken 6."

Oh, by the way, it's PlayStation Network in the USA. So, unless you've cheated and created a PSN ID for that slab of the planet (we're sure you haven't), you are not going to be one of the "11 hopeful gamers from across the country (who) will compete in grueling (sic) physical and mental challenges to win a position as a game tester at SCEA and a $5,000 signing bonus".

Gruelling 'physical challenges'? To be a game tester? If you're already a game tester, please god come to the Forum and tell us about what physical challenges you reckon are required to test games for Sony.

Was a tester, took the job as a springboard to something greater in the industry.

It's not a glamourous job, and certainly not a "prize". Testing broken games that are unfinished isn't fun and even if you're working on the next MGS or COD game, you end up so jaded that by the time it's a finished quality product, you absolutely hate it with every fibre in your body.

As mentioned in the first 3 words of my post, I was a tester.

Have since been a producer (project manager) and programmer (programmer).

"I was a testers" is 4 words, not 3 :)

But yes, I did it for 2 years, black box testing, emdedded testing and a team lead - and sitting on your arse for 8 hours trying to recreate a bug that has about 14 steps and someone else says is 100% recreational and unavoidable is not a great job!!!!

If you are about to start - be prepared to put on weight with all the boardom eating you do!
