Sony's Motion Controller is to receive “around 10 or so” compatible games within the year, according to a Nikkei report (via Andriasang). These games will include pet-raising and sports titles. As light as it is on the details, the Nikkei report does support the theory that Sony are throwing some weight behind the device, on top of support from Capcom in a motion-controlled version of
Resident Evil 5.
The number is nothing to be sniffed at, although the casual nature of these supposed titles does throw some concern as to the primary use of the controller. Back at E3 last year, Sony suggested that its device – which works in co-ordination with the PlayStation Eye to provide accurate motion tracking and depth perception – would be suitable for “
real games”.
Originally slated for a release this Spring, Sony announced recently that the new peripheral has been delayed to Autumn, putting it in close proximity of Microsoft's own motion control device, Project Natal. In the meantime, Microsoft is so confident of its own direction that it's creating a
new gaming category for the Natal.
