Sony re-affirmed its expansion of the PlayStation Network to other consumer devices at its Consumer Electronics Show keynote address last night.

Kaz Hirai – once SCEA head honcho, now president of Sony's Networked Products and Services Group – took to the stage in Las Vegas to explain that the company will be “expanding our network services beyond PS3 and PSP,” announcing a “single [user] experience”.

What does that mean? Well, while other Sony electronics won't get the exact same content as the PS3 and PSP's online store, you'll still be able to connect to a 'Sony Network' shop of some kind using the same user ID as you would use for your PSN account. Hirai said that there are 38 million registered users on the PlayStation Network, so to utilise this userbase sounds like a savvy plan.

While other products won't exactly be getting “true” PSN, the exec confirmed that the company's “Premium Video Content” services (such as the current video store, accessible via PS3 or PSP) will be extended to Blu-ray players, laptops and TVs.

Hirai also announced that 1.7 million PlayStation 3 consoles were sold in North America this past quarter.
