Not for Ratchet and Clank

Insomniac Doesn't Want the Wolverine Effect
TJ Fixman is the writer on Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time. We interviewed him recently to get the full details on the latest in the R&C stable. We found out about weapons, history and something of the future.

We also discovered that exploring the history of the two characters offered some problems:

"It's definitely a challenge because players have been following Ratchet and Clank's lives for seven games right now, and we finally pull back the curtain on how they are the way they are. You want to match up to the expectations of the fans. You don't want a 'Wolverine' effect where as soon as its revealed where the characters come from you think “Oh, well that's far less interesting than I thought it would be”.

I guess he's just not paid enough to be able to afford the Wolverine Origins comic-book for £10-20, as well as the other various canon origin comic-books for the character, because it seems like his comment is based purely off the movie rather than the actual story behind the character, and i'll admit the movie was pretty bad and ignored almost all of the actual origin of the charcter written by numerous talented writers over the years. But hey, maybe somewhere in the future they too could be saying "well we don't want the "fixman" effect for our video-game." *shrug*

I have read Wolverine Origins and I gotta say I was disapointed. With characters like Wolverine, Joker and Hannibal Lecter you should never reveal their backstory, it takes away the mystery to the character and makes them less frightening. With the Joker there has never been a definitive version of his origin, which is best.
