Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is Naughty Dog's sublime sequel to the 2007 PS3 hit. And it's out this Friday (in the UK, the USA has it today). Excited about it? We sure are, but it appears industry analysts are also getting excited, as they predict the game will mark a significant turnaround for Sony's market share fortunes in the US.
Forbes consulted Electronic Entertainment Design and Research analyst Jesse Divnich, who said that
Uncharted 2's AAA status and its exclusivity on the PS3 will work in Sony's favour. "Titles like '
Uncharted 2' are rare to come by as it is. And with '
Uncharted 2' being exclusive to the PlayStation 3, you can bet the game will move a significant amount of hardware through the holidays."
The business publication is stating that price cuts to the PS3, the recent Slimpact and the upcoming exclusives are making analysts believe that Sony's console will outsell both the Wii and the Xbox 360 in September, and continue to dominate throughout the holiday season.
It really does feel like the PS3 hasn't reached critical mass yet, and is just on the edge of some incredible sales. The introduction of
Final Fantasy XIII is certain to boost console sales many times over in Japan, while
God of War III will do the same trick in the West.
"Five years from now, when we look back at the success of the PlayStation 3, the release of "
Uncharted 2" will certainly stick out as one of the tipping points that helped changed the tides in Sony's favour," concludes Divnich.
Well, we'll hold Jesse to that either way.
