Sure, the Nigerian opposition has a cool name - the Action Congress - but it also appears to have members who are a little slow to board a bandwagon. The AC's National Publicity Secretary Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has said, "The party is urging Nigerians to seriously consider boycotting Sony products to show their disenchantment and send a strong signal to other companies out there that may be inclined to copy Sony.
"The party condemns Sony for firing darts at Nigeria in advertising its Play Station 3 console, wondering why Nigeria has to be brought into the advert.
"The offensive part of the Play Station 3 advert - '’You can’t believe everything you read on the internet; otherwise I will be a Nigerian millionaire by now’' - is simply aimed at showing that Nigerians are not capable of conducting a decent business."
Yes, it's
that advert again... the one that Sony has already apologised for and changed.
But there's more. Apparently Sony Picture's
District 9 is also offensive to Nigeria. And,
according to the good secretary, the Nigerian government is taking bribes in order to cover-up all the nastiness by companies such as Sony.
