Bon Jovi Passed on Guitar Hero

Can understand the Cobain furore

Bon Jovi Passed on Guitar Hero
Jon Bon Jovi has stated that he was offered an avatar in Guitar Hero, but thought better of it. In doing so, he's reignited the furore regarding the use of dead Nirvana legend Kurt Cobain's image in the game to sing other people's songs. One of those songs was, of course, You Give Love A Bad Name, by Bon Jovi.

He tells the BBC, "I had the paperwork, they wanted me to be on that game and I just passed.

"But no-one even broached the subject with me that I would be singing other people's stuff. I don't know how I would have reacted to that. I don't know that I would have wanted it either."

Curiouser and curioser.

This has what's got me wondering about the whole Kurt Cobain thing. I'm not a fan of him, or the band, but I do wonder just how explicit Activision were with explaining what would happen with his likeness; telling someone that he will be "fully playable" does not necessarily mean that they understand he would be playable with every single song in the game, a non-gamer would probably assume it would only be for the songs he sang.

Some people will argue that Courtney Love, et al, should have read the paperwork better, but you can read something and not realise you are unaware there is a difference in the terms being used by both sides.

The problem with making excuses for 'artists' like Love is that she had an army of lawyers looking over those docs and *still* signed which makes her protestations seem particularly lame. (In other words, if it was that vaguely-worded, she needs better lawyers.)
