Courtney Love: Kurt Would Have Loathed Guitar Hero

Okay, before we dive into the detail watch the following video of Nirvana's Kurt Cobain - and Courtney Love's deceased husband - performing Public Enemy and Bon Jovi songs in Guitar Hero 5. You'll need to do this in order to get a handle on why Ms Love is calling Activision 'disgusting' and threatening to sue the company. She is also denying that she had anything to do with the game - and also that Cobain would have 'loathed' it.



Here's her initial salvo: "For the record this Guitar Hero shit is breach of contract on a Bullys part and there will be a proper addressing of this and retraction.

"WE are going to sue the shit out of ACtivision we being the Trust the Estate the LLC the various LLCs Cobain Enterprises."

Despite the widely held assumption that Love licensed the use of Cobain's image in the game, she states a different picture on Twitter: "now theyre just LIQUIDATING kurt and IM THE DEVIL? I HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH GUITAR HERO I LOATHE IT AND FIND IT ODIOUS KURT WOULD HAVE TOO".

This, however, runs counter to a report in Rolling Stone that stated, "Indeed, securing the proper approvals was no small feat. Not only did Cobain’s widow Courtney Love have to sign off on behalf of the estate, so did former drummer Dave Grohl and Primary Wave Publishing, which administers the Nirvana catalog.

"'There’s a lot of moving parts to something like this', (Activision’s Vice President of Music Affairs) Tim Riley explains. 'But it was about timing, not an issue of resistance. We almost did it for World Tour, but we couldn’t get it together. Then after three years of working with the different parties, it was like the perfect storm.'"

In terms of Love's involvement, however, what she says this about seeing the Cobain avatar, "i saw a piece of the avatar on the nightly news i actually had to vomit but ive been alone", we could also assume that she wasn't hands-on with the project after the deals were done.

Love also expresses her distaste for Activision:

Activision is yet to comment on. The sound of lawyers laughing like maniacs, however, has already been measured at twice as loud as the average Queen gig used to be.
