Petitions and moaning give way to purchasing

Modern Warfare 2 Prestige Edition Runs Out in UK
Despite a heat of moaning and generally feeling thoroughly annoyed that a games company is attempting to make large amounts of cash from selling a game, it appears that in the UK at least Activision Blizzard's Modern Warfare 2 Prestige Edition has sold out on pre-order.

MCV reports an spokesman for retailer HMV (which has £119.99 the exclusive) stating, "The initial batch has (sold out) via all the pre-orders," said a HMV spokesperson. "but we are looking to see if we can secure more units."

It's unlikely that new stock will come into play.

I am so pleased I pre ordered this when it became available for pre order over at HMV.com. Ordering in July for a release in November did make me think I might be being slightly fanatical, but I am glad I did! Given every year there is always something everyone has high anticipation for and then low stock in the run up to xmas generally makes for weeks of hard work chasing down some last known copy only to have to pay a high price in the end for it anyway.... on balance I knew the £ would be well worth it . We're creeping ever closer to the big day and I am loving it, just can't wait. Now I hear this is a truly limited edition (something I didn't know at the time) which makes it all the more satisfying (in an evil way).... I'll play the game and give the NVGs to my son; he'll love em.

I know it's tough on people that miss out, but it's nice that something really is limited in this unlimited supply world. When i was younger, all sorts of things were limited. Nowadays, they seem to "limit" supply to about 10 more than they could hope to sell. There's no scarcity, no exclusivity. I can't help wondering if Activision are wishing that they'd made it a bit less limited.

And while people might miss out on the expensive extras, it's the game that really counts... isn't it?

All the listing on eBay for the Prestige Edition are in breach of the 30 day limit for pre-orders. If you look carefully at some of the current auctions listed they may well be scams as well (some are asking for immediate positive feedback so they can withdraw the funds!). If you pay 60 days before an item is due, expect that you may lose your money. PayPal do not refund if the money is already gone (even if you pay with Credit Cards now that the CC companies deny responsibility for PayPal payments).

I agree with Gary, i hate people like Bob who buy something just because it's popular to make money on Ebay. Its the same with concert tickets. God I hate Ebay. nm have to settle for Veteran or Hardened editions now. Game is still gonna rock!!

@jamie Sorry Mate but if you want to buy it from america you might be able to use your Night Vision Goggles but you are not gonna be able to play the game if you have a uk xbox. America have a different version than us that is special to there xbox's and vice verssa with us. If you want to play MW2 with the Prestige Edition youll have no choice but to get it from HMV.
