DigiTimes has an interesting report stating that "Taiwan OEMs recently have placed significant orders for key Sony PS3 components from IC distributors, with average monthly volume enough for making one million units of the games console in the third quarter, double the average in the second quarter, according to sources with IC distributors."
In this case the 'third quarter' refers to the months October to December for the suppliers in question.
According to the report the supply of the chipset in question, supplied by Renesas Technology, is "falling short of demand". This is combined with the reported fact shipments of other PS3 components are "expected to top four million units per month in the third quarter".
The 'demand' in question here is from Sony itself. While the holiday season is - it's hoped - going to see increased demand for games consoles, this news is obviously going to give rise to yet more rumblings about PS3 Slims.
