LittleBigPlanet did a bit of ass kicking and took a few names at the Develop Awards last night. The game and its developer, Media Molecule, left the ceremony with five awards between them.
The pair topped the Best New IP, Visual Arts, Technical Innovation, Best New Studio and Best Independent Developer categories.
Phil Harrison,
current non-executive director of Infogrames, former president of Atari and head of Sony Worldwide Studios, was given the Development Legend award. Literary agent Jacqui Lyons ("the first person in the world to recognise the pulling power of games developers", according to the announcement) was given a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Codemasters bagged the Grand Prix, which recognises contributions to the games industry over the company's 25 year lifespan.
The awards took place down at the Develop Conference in Brighton and were attended by some 500 industry professionals. The awards were voted on by a pool of "industry experts" pulled from
Develop's readership.
