It seems that some PS3 firmware 3.0 details have been leaked into the world. With 2.80 only just out, this assumes that 2.90 is still to come, so we're still away off 3.0. That said, VG247 is stating that 3.0 will include the following:
- A "huge overhaul".
- Due pre-Xmas 2009.
- Comparable to Xbox 360's NXE "in some respects".
- Games will have "A reputation system" for users to rate each other.
- A grief reporting system similar to that in
LittleBigPlanet.
- Patches can be downloaded in the background.
- Simultaneous HDMI and digital optical audio output.
No news of PS2 backward compatibility or whether the update will be part of a new, slimmer PS3.
There's apparently more to come. We're currently trying to get SCEE to comment.
