Financial analyst - we often forget that's what he does for a living - Michael Pachter, has made his views felt on what "was far and away the most important" announcement of E3". We'll forget that the show finished weeks ago. That announcement was the arrival of Twitter, Last.fm and Facebook on the Xbox 360.
Before you call "Foolish man!":
"In order for this to happen," says MP, "Microsoft has to open up the Xbox Live interface and for the first time will let Xbox Live members use the built-in browser as a browser."
Before you say, "No you can't, you can look at Twitter, Facebook, Last.fm and Netflix" the man has a point:
"Admittedly, the selection is limited to these four sites, but it's a start, and is a glimpse into the future of the Xbox 360 as a home media/internet hub."
Why though? Because it appears to MP that Microsoft understands, "that it can leverage its 30 million installed base advantage (over Apple) if it moves quickly, and Apple will have a long way to go in order to catch up. By far, this was the most important announcement of E3."
A 30 million install base advantage over Apple sort of assumes that Apple is Microsoft's biggest competitor in the living room. Seems that MP is now dismissing Sony out of hand.
