EA's John Riccitiello expects the number of gamers to crack the one billion mark soon.
"A few years ago, I think there were a couple of hundred million consumer participants in our industry. I think we are going to break a billion in a year or two", Riccitiello told
Reuters at E3 2009.
That's not to say that all those gamers will have a Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo product in their living room or pocket, however.
"They are participating in lots of different business models: online casual PC, downloading games to their iPhones", Riccitiello said. "They are doing micro-transactions on games like
FIFA Online."
According to the
U.S. Census Bureau, the world's population is 6,784,525,431. That would make around one in seven people in the world gamers when the industry hits a billion consumers. One in seven!
