Microsoft has confirmed that Sky Player is coming to the Xbox 360.
The online service, which is currently available for PC and Mac, will offer both on-demand and live programming.
Microsoft isn't giving the full game away just yet, telling us that, "Details of the full channel line-up will be revealed closer to launch, but it is anticipated that Xbox LIVE users will be able to access blockbuster movies, must-see entertainment shows, thought-provoking documentaries, programming dedicated to kids, music and the arts, as well as all the excitement of Premier League football, Test Match cricket and a wide variety of other sports through Sky Sports."
The target audience, according to the announcement, is "Millions of entertainment fans". If you don't like being entertained, this sure ain't for you.
For punters new to Sky, a "wide range of live channels and on-demand content via a number of different packages" will be offered. There will also be a pay-per-view option. Existing Sky customers just get a new way to access the programming.
Microsoft is also promising "a range of unique interactive services". "For Sky Sports, for example, this will mean that live coverage will be supported by range of applications to enhance the viewing experience further", the announcement tells us.
"As well as fans being able to communicate with one another in real time via their broadband connections, they will also be able to check news and access fixtures, league tables and other on-demand information. Interactive applications will also be developed across other programmes genres", the press release goes on.
A launch date was not given in the announcement.
The service was revealed at an event down in London and might not surprise you, given
what SPOnG told you earlier in the week.
The news is also a huge shot across the bows of Sony's Play TV PS3 offering.
Whether this means that plans to offer
BT Vision through the 360 are completely dead in the water is unclear.
