PSP Phone Hint? Sony Ericsson Phone Talks to PS3
Sony Ericsson is set to release a phone that will communicate with the PlayStation 3, marking the biggest step yet toward a PlayStation phone.

The handset, dubbed Aino, will make use of the Remote Play functionality already available on the PSP. That means, if you're not familiar with Remote Play, that you'll be able to control and access media stored on the PS3 on the hoof.

Sony Ericsson also tells us, "For TV lovers in Italy, France, Spain, Germany and in the UK users can also enjoy the PlayTV service on PlayStation 3 via the Aino. Watch, pause and record live TV from a huge range of free channels via Aino on the go." You won't, however, be able to access hi-def video.

Access can be had either via a local network in the home or over the Internet from wherever you damn well like (give or take a bit of signal). You'll also be able to access content on your PC using the phone's keypad/touch screen hybrid interface.

“Media Home and Remote Play with PlayStation 3 are key steps in broadening the entertainment experiences users can enjoy on their Sony Ericsson phone and gives a taste of our vision of the future”, said Alexandre Cardon, market business manager at Sony Ericsson.

Hear that? "...a taste of our vision of the future”. That vision, it would seem, could involve further PlayStation functionality.

Ben Wood of UK-based research firm CCS Insight seems to think so. "At last there's a cooperation between a Sony product and a Sony Ericsson phone. Previously, it was just branding. We see it as a statement of intent", he told Reuters.

According to rumour, however, Sony has other ideas on the subject.
