PlayStation 3 Price Cut 'Announced' by Media
Sony's corporate executive officer Nobuyuki Oneda has had the following to say about the PlayStation 3 and the company's pricing strategy.

"This is a very serious issue," he said. "If we announce our pricing strategies, that affects our inventory level."

He followed this with, "Well, I think you have to guess what will be our pricing strategy."

Those two statements have lead CNBC, at least, to make the statement that Oneda has in fact 'pre-announced' a price-cut. This conclusion was reached based on these quotes plus the fact that Sony has raised its sales forecast for the console by 30% to 13 million units for the fiscal year to March 31st 2010.

Even if they do cut prices, isn't it too late now? Is there anyone out there waiting for a price cut before they buy, or have they either coughed up the full amount or bought something else by now?

Do the math. 150m PS2 owners out there. Do you seriously think they have all bought 360's instead of PS3s?

Of course not. The PS3 has sold daster than the 360 worldwide despite it costing twice as much as as the price drops it will sell huge amounts more.

The economic downturn has effected what we spend on as a whole, many people do not want to shell out for a PS3 right now, not at the current price range. Sony need to bring the console to a reasonable price on the same day they release new A+ exclusives, games like Gran Turismo 5 and God of War 3.

Well the PS2 has sold in excess of 136 milltion units so yes, of course there are people out there without a next gen console yet.... There is still a long long way to go for this console cycle!!! Anybody declaring consoles as failed or the console wars as decided already are very misguided.
