E3 in Los Angeles next month is apparently going to be the venue for Sony to announce a Wii-Mote-like controller for the PS3 if a report on Variety is to be believed.
Apparently, "A good source saw a working prototype several months ago". The prototype in question refers to
a patent that was filed with the US Patent Office in 2006 for a 'DETECTABLE AND TRACKABLE HAND-HELD CONTROLLER'.
The device uses a small camera to detect coloured light sources which, apparently, makes it more accurate than the Wii Remote controller.
Despite Variety's headline, "Sony's motion sensing controller for PS3 to be unveiled at E3", however,
the piece contains that following, "I'm not sure when the device will be unveiled (later this year or mid-next year, I'd think given the E3 timing) or what software will initially be available."
So, we're slapping this one under "Patent seen from 2006...erm, that's it"
