The American International Toy Fair starts in New York this week, and toy manufacturers such as Mattel and Hasbro will be showing off their new wares. They won't, however, be pricing them near the $200 mark if they can help it.
The reason? They don't want to compete with video games consoles. Jim Silver, a toy analyst (they have them as well) makes the point: "The $200 barrier is a very difficult barrier to cross, because you put yourself at the same price point as a video game system.
"Even in most years it's tough to compete with video games. I don't think you'll see many toys over $150 in the near term."
So, the toy makers are cutting back on price in order to compete with the Xbox 360 Arcade, the Wii and DS, the PS2 and the PSP. Could Sony take a nod and drop the PS3 in price? Probably not.
