Rare: Coy on NXE User-Generated Avatar Content
Having hinted that user-generated content might be on the way for Xbox 360 avatars, Rare is keeping schtum on the details.

SPOnG has spoken to Rare today to confirm that the quotes attributed to a staffer are accurate. Pressing for more details, however, we were asked, “What part of 'but we’re keeping quiet on that for now' don't you understand!?” We think the rep we spoke to was being jovial, but who can say?

Speaking to VG247 a Rare staffer said that 360 users “may” be able to create their own goodies for their avatars in the future. “User-generated content is a huge area that would not have been done any justice if we had tried to cram it into the launch release of this project”, said Avatars designer, Dale Murchie.

“There may be features coming that open up the expressive potential of the Xbox community, but we’re keeping quiet on that for now.”

“Creativity is going to play a big part in the development of the Avatars”, added head of art, Lee Musgrave.

User-generated content for avatars would, of course, make more sense than you can throw a Mii at. The whole point of the New Xbox Experience is to encourage community participation in Xbox Live and people love making stuff.

Elsewhere in the interview, it was noted by Musgrave that, “In time… games will be able to give away clothes and accessories just like Achievements.” Further details were not given, other than that, “We are currently working with multiple partners who have expressed interest in using Avatars”, according to producer Stacey Law.

In the past, Microsoft has rolled out new items of clothing such as footy shirts for free.
