Atari: Chronicles of Riddick Not a Remake

Plus: new video right here

In case you have any lingering doubts about The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena, Atari has issued a statement to let you know - it is not a remake.

Atari states that on top of the "9+ hours" of remade Escape from Butcher Bay material, there is also "11+ hours" of content that is all Dark Athena. Also pointed out was the number of multiplayer modes - 6. (You'll find details below.)

The fact that Atari felt the need to make the statement shows it's twitchy on the subject. Reports last month suggested that the new Dark Athena content added up to a whole new game, while a fact sheet referred to the Escape content as "Bonus material".

Maybe everyone should calm down and watch the video below, eh? Further down, you'll also find details on the game's multi-player modes.

Multiplayer modes:

Deathmatch – All against all. Weapons, ammo and power-ups are scattered around the levels. Some smaller levels do not have the most powerful weapons on them for balancing purposes. Ulaks are also not included. Supports up to 12 players. N.B.Some smaller maps support less than 12 players, ie 4-8.

Team Deathmatch – As above, but the players are split up into red and blue teams. Supports up to 12 players, but some maps are for smaller teams as with Deathmatch.

Capture The Flag –Red and Blue teams try to penetrate each others’ base and take their flags. Weapons, ammo and power-ups are distributed similarly to Deathmatch, but with other CTF unique maps as well as some Deathmatch maps. Supports up to 12 players, but some maps are for smaller teams as with Deathmatch.

Butcher Bay Riot – 12 players split up into teams of Guards, Prisoners and Mercenaries. There is one powercell in the level. Capture the powercell and return it to the capture point in the opposing teams base to win the round (match can be won with 3 or 5 rounds depending on settings). Players buy weapons before the round starts. Winning rewards them with more cash, as does killing the opposing players. All weapons can be purchased. All maps support 12 players.

Pitch Black – Play as one of five Mercenaries and hunt down Riddick. When you kill Riddick you become him. All levels are sheathed in darkness, with only weapons’ flashlights to see by. Riddick starts in the darkness, the Mercenaries start in a lit room containing shotguns, SMG’s and Assault Rifles. Drop into the darkness to hunt down Riddick. Riddick is armed with the Ulaks and his unique nightvision/eyeshine. The more powerful the Mercenaries weapons, the lower the power of the flashlight. 6 Players on all maps.

Arena – Either 1 on 1 or teams of 2 on 2 (default setting is 2 vs 2 but can be changed in advanced options) . Winning team/individual stays on. All weapons are in the players inventory when the game is started. Up to 8 players.

*Yawn* this is getting boring fast.

First the devs said its a remake and a true sequel is a few years off.

Atari then steps in and says its not a remake but a true sequel and pointed out all of the above already months ago.

Atari step in again today to reaffirm that it is not a remake but then say 'on top of the "9+ hours" of remade Escape from Butcher Bay material'

So in part its a remake but with added content aka expansion pack because this game is expanding on the original by remaking the first.

To me I am getting it either way can't wait.
