The PlayStation 3, like the Xbox 360, had a hell of a 2008. Where Microsoft's 2008 "will be remembered around the world as a pivotal growth year at retail and online", Sony's 2008 was, "a pivotal year for PlayStation with the best software line up in the industry, a dramatic expansion of PlayStation Network including the launches of the video delivery service and the beta of the PlayStation Home". At least that what Ian Jackson, vice president of sales for Sony Computer Entertainment America told
CNET in a statement.
It's great that everybody had such great 2008. The PS3's was so great that, "Early internal data points to an increase of more than 130 percent of PS3 hardware sales for the holiday season (since Black Friday) and we're also seeing a growth of nearly 40 percent in total PS3 hardware sales for the calendar year. We remain confident this momentum will continue into the new year", said Jackson.
Actual North American sales figures from NPD tell us the following for November.
PS3 sales fell 18.8% year-on-year: 466,000 to 378,000.
Wii sales rose 108%: 981,000 to 2.04 million
Xbox 360 sales rose 8.6 percent: 770,000 to 836,000.
NPD will be releasing December figures next week.
