Japan: Video Game Market Declines
The video games market in Japan has hit 'negative growth' (yes, it shrank) last year. This is the first time in four years that this has occurred.

Enterbrain has released data that shows the hardware market dropped by 15.3% year-on-year with sale of Y582.6 billion (£4.2b) in 2008. The blame is being pointed not at the pre-Apocalyptic, pre-dystopian state of capitalism but - more prosaically at the lack of console launches last year. Software sales were down by 7.9%.

Enterbrain's figures for who sold how many consoles last year are also in:

Nintendo DS = 4.03 million.
Nintendo Wii = 2.91 million.
Sony PSP = 3.54 million.
Sony PS3 = 991,000.
Microsoft Xbox 360 = 318,000.

Perhaps now, especially with the global recession gripping us, more japanese developers/publishers will wake up to selling their games to a global audience, not just japan.

You're a egoistic bastard aren't you...oh noes there are companies that don't do exactly as i wish them to do...buttocks.

You should better had said that they wake up and keep making the games that they are known for, but using universal values.

I remember a time where Nintendogs was to "Japanese" to sell in the West...now half of the 12+ million copies sold where in Europe. Which just confirms: Loving Puppy's is a unviersal value...spread the word!
