Home Open Beta Hits a Snag

Technical problems could delay launch

Posted by Staff
Sony has hit a snag in its plans to roll out the open beta of Home later today. Technical issues have cropped up and Sony is unsure how long they'll take to resolve.

A forum posting from TedTheDog, a community manager over on the European PlayStation forums, writes, "Testing complete and a couple of technical problems have been found. We need to iron these issues out first and I'm waiting to hear how long that might take (I'm not qualified to even guess, its very technical). Apologies, I know you all want to get in but we must get these things right. And please remember, this is a beta and today is our first step into the Open Beta environment and what we're doing today is part of the beta process itself."

That post was at 4:30pm, with no update having been offered since. The service is scheduled to launch some time this evening.

This isn't to say, of course, that the launch will necessarily be delayed. But - be prepared.

Once the beta's good to go, an icon will appear in the XMB that will enable users to download it. Getting it to appear will require your PS3 to be rebooted if you already have it on.

Keep an eye on the PlayStation Forum for updates.

"PlayStation Home just couldn't be done on any other game platform".

I guess they were right, the ONLY platform where you get nothing but problems when getting updates.
