Shigeru Miyamoto has been on a European tour. Having already told Channel 4 that he is concerned about the levels of violence - and the industry's reliance on it - in video gaming, he's now spoken to German site,
3sat, about 3D gaming and what has happened to
Project H.A.M.M.E.R..
For the uninitiated,
this Wii game involves, "Killer robots... attacking major cities across the United States...
"...Players control one of Project H.A.M.M.E.R.’s cyborg prototypes: half-man, half-machine, with an extraordinary weapon", which sounds a little violent to us. It also sounds a bit like the ancient and revered, Hammerfist Amiga outing from the later 1980s/early 1990s.
So, Shiggy sees 3D gaming as a possible with one caveat, "I can just add my personal opinion: if the new environment requires the player to wear some goggle-style, I really don't have a good impression of that."
And as for
Project H.A.M.M.E.R. - it's not something he's working on, however, it doesn't sound as if it's been canned. "What I can confirm here is that only when Nintendo can become almost certain of the timing of the launch we are able to make the relevant launch announcement of the software," says the great man.
According to
NintendoRevolution, "You can download the entire interview in English on November 9th via 3stat's podcast page."
