New Xbox Experience - Free Memory from Microsoft

Cheap HD or free memory unit.

There has been some fluster and bother regarding the upgrade to the New Xbox Experience (NXE) and that fact that you need 128Mb of free space to use it. For most users, this isn't a problem. For Core users, however, their lack of hard disc presents a major problem.

Talking of 'major' problems, Microsoft's mascot of the Xbox, Major Nelson, promised a storage solution recently - but wasn't 'sharing' details. Well, now he has.

What you need to do is head over to the relevant local NXE memory page, in the case of the UK, that's right here.

You then fill in the relevant details: serial number and Console ID, and you'll be offered the following options depending on your configuration and console.

Xbox 360 Core owners with active Live memberships and either 256 or 512MB memory units are being offered a £12.99 20Gb hard disk.

Xbox 360 Core owners with active Live memberships and with either 64MB of memory or none at all can get a free 512MB memory unit. You are, however, being offered the £12.99 HDD as an option.

Xbox 360 Core - if you haven't connected to Live for 12 months and you are without an HDD, your option is the £12.99 20GB HDD plus three months on Xbox Live for a total of £19.99.

Xbox 360 Arcade owners with Live subscriptions but no HDD, yup, it's the £12.99 HDD.

Xbox 360 Arcade owners with no HDD and no visits to Live in the last 12 months are offered the £19.99 deal.

And if Microsoft had made only 2 machines both with hard drives we would't be having this problem...I guess its time for Microsoft to make some losses...

I think this whole thing could have been avoided if the HDD wasn't a proprietary HDD like the PS3 then even the core users wouldn't mind getting a HDD

Core users can suck it up and fork over the loot. This is a great deal.

Microsoft haven't recouped the losses from the first XBox yet. Just because they have been in operating profit for the last few quarters doesn't mean they've paid off their R&D and initial manufacturing costs for the XBox or 360.

However, I have to agree with you, they should have made the HDD standard in all 360 models, they didn't and now it's biting them in the nether regions.

And ironically Peter Moore was saying the last Xbox cost loads because of the hard drive and next gen someone will complain costs were high because they had 2 different hard drives and 3 sku's!!

hey, hey, hey...if poor tyr is forced to acknowledge common ground with SS4 without complaint, you can 'ditto' me with more grace.

a more pointed stick, err, question is: What happens to the Arcade SKU now?
Ship it with...[rant]bloody touchpads, see this is why I hate laptops, my thumb always messes me up when I try to type with any speed at all[/rant]...as I was saying before I so rudely interrupted myself...ship it with the half gig Memory Unit or what?

Also, does the free 512MB Memory Unit come with the bonus carrying case that fits on your keyring?

I know my bonus will be coming in the form of a free if small, Memory Unit...that guy I know with three of them already sent away for his free one, as he had already purchased, at the previous, redonkulously inflated price, a 10G for his Core, sure hes stingy, but he's not THAT stingy, he'll kick me down...

This does, however scotch my previous cunning plan to sell my...see[rant] above, add more cursing and vitriolic invective...old 10G on craigslist at a slight discount and purchase a 120...the 10G's resale value just took a hyuuuge hit.
