Premium console now cheaper than Wii

CONFIRMED: Microsoft UK Cuts Xbox 360 Price
Microsoft has confirmed that the Woolworths' price cuts SPOnG told you about last week were not specific to that retailer.

It will indeed cut the price of the Xbox 360 in the UK, bringing the cost of the entry-level Arcade to a massive £40 below the Wii.

The Arcade will now come with an estimated retail price of £129.99, dropping from £160. The next model up, with its 60GB hard drive, will now also cost less than the Wii (which costs £179) at £169.99. Previously it sat at £200. The 160GB Elite, meanwhile, drops from £260 to £229.99.

The price cut makes the most expensive 360 a clear £70 cheaper than the PlayStation 3, which currently weighs in at £299.99 with 80GB of hard disc space.

The new pricing scheme will take effect this Friday.

The price cut also puts the UK's Xbox 360 pricing very close to that in the US. Over there, Microsoft announced a price cut a little under two weeks ago.

The arcade pack doesn't bother me no more because it should show folks that paying that little bit extra can get them a Premium pack with a hard drive that gives them soo much more functionality like with the soon to be released update that allows full installs of games that is optional. Also backwards compatibility of original Xbox games as well.

I think the Elite should be around £209.99.

Well just to throw your bollox out again, I will be buying an arcade this Friday, why? Well my daughter wants a 360, she’s 10 so I won’t be allowing her on live just yet and why does she need a HDD when a 256 mem card will hold her viva piñata saves all well and good? The arcade will be the casual gamer’s choice,

an arcade with, Lips, Viva Piñata Trouble in Paradise and a That at the Movies thingy with Vision Camera, I can see a bundle for xmas @ £189.99? Maybe even at the Wiis sweet point of £179.99, not everyone is al core gamer who want a 360!

Sorry I was under the insumption that kids were all after the Wii...Sorry for my ignorance...

Given your history of rude and aggressive responses perhaps you should not buy have an Xbox 360 but perhaps spend the money getting her a better education than you because from the way you tend to speak you sure are full of only profanity most of the time!!

if i was 16/17 £130.00 would be a lot of money and £170.00 even more so, so if i coudl pick me up a 360 for £130.00 i would! lets not forget play.com that usally sells theres with £10.00 saving meaning the console will be around for £119.99!!! this xmas will see massive 360 sales which = good for me as i need some noobz to crush on halo 3 as im getting worse with age!

Yes you do make a very good point, I guess the Arcade pack can be seen as a superb buy considering its got a wireless controller, 5 arcade games and a 256mb memory card.

Also as the other person said pre-owned prices will come down even more as well so an arcade 360 could be £100 and who knows a premium at £130 but most likely that will be the 20gb model...

My mate is getting an arcade pack because of the new price and its a true bargain.

That is a rather impressive cut, if I've done the mathematics correctly than it's puts the 60GB model more than a fiver below the US before VAT. It's rare we get such a good comparison over here, it's usually a lot more before VAT.
