Big Sony Europe news has rolled in from Leipzig this afternoon. First and foremost, the company has announced a new stock keeping unit (SKU) for the PS3 in Europe, one boasting 160GB of hard disk space.
The new model will be launched on Halloween itself October 31st at a price of €449. Sony Computer Entertainment Europe's president, David Reeves, also said that the machine will launch with €70-worth of downloadable content. More details of that are expected closer to launch. This also looks very much like a
LittleBigPlanet bundle to us given LBP's Euro launch date... more on that later.
Darn it... we are not correct. Apparently it's a
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune bundle.
Just last month Sony
announced an 80GB PS3 for Europe. Reeves said that will launch at the end of this week, confirming news SPOnG brought you
a couple of days ago.
Next up we have a new PSP. The model is dubbed the PSP 3000 and will come with an enhanced screen, which Reeves says will increase the intensity and number of colours that can be displayed, as well as being easier to view in natural light. It will also have a built-in microphone.
The new model will cost €199 and will replace the Slim & Lite. To get rid of the remaining Slim & Lite units, Sony will drop the cost of that SKU to €169. The 3000 will be released on October 15th in Europe.
Also mentioned was an October 29th release date for LittleBigPlanet, which gels with the Japanese release date SPOnG told you about
earlier in the month.
Last on the hardware front and... kind of least, Reeves mentioned a wireless keypad for the PS3. The device will slot into PS3 controllers and feature a mousepad.
It was also announced that SCEE will handle distribution of Sony Online Entertainment's titles in the future, effectively moving the company into the realms of PC publishing. The likes of
DC Universe Online and
The Agency will be handled under the move.
