The Wii outsold the PlayStation 3 in Japan for the five weeks leading to June 29th. That's the seventh consecutive month the Wii has led the way. If you're about to fall off your chair with unsurprise, you might want to think about the fact that
Metal Gear Solid 4 was launched in June.
Yup, even with the launch of what's arguably its biggest exclusive title, the PS3 still trailed behind the Wii. That's not to say that
MGS4 didn't help, however. The Wii beat the PS3 by 1.7 to 1. That compares to a much larger lead of six to one in May. In June, 235,990 Wiis were sold, compared to 139,494 PS3s. Four times as many PS3s were sold in June as in May, when 34, 674 units were shifted.
The Xbox 360, as ever, trailed at the back with a paltry 10,964 sales.
On the handheld front, the PSP once again led the way. Sony sold 274,131 of the little blighters. Nintendo, meanwhile, sold 195,714 DSes.
