Microsoft's Major Nelson Denies Xbox 360 Spring Update Rumours
Snuck into the most recent Major Nelson podcast came news that a rumoured Xbox 360 update containing loads of new features and updates (see bottom of this story) is in fact not going to happen.

Slipped into the podcast almost as a really off-the-cuff response to what could have turned into a PR nightmare was the following exchange between Major Nelson (Larry Hryb) and his wacky pal, 'e':

Major Nelson: "Sometime last week there was an amusing list that kind of made its rounds. Now, this list was a list that allegedly leaked from inside Microsoft and had a full - all sorts of features - for an upcoming update."

e: "And I think the official PR answer was "We've never seen this list before... "

Major Nelson: "We do not comment on rumours and speculation... "

e: "...but we've never seen the list."

Major Nelson: "And as 'e' and I can tell you, from people who work on the product team cos we don't work on the PR team - never seen that list before have we?"

e: "No, and I'm kind of scrolling through it from xbox360fanboy and I'm going 'What? No. This is not the list you'll be seeing this coming to a dashboard near you."

Major Nelson: "No, move along."

So, just what is going to be on the Spring update? We wait with breath all batey..

Whether this is the official list or not (my guess is that if this isn't "the" list it's very, very close), I sure hope Microsoft pays attention to this list because there are some MUCH NEEDED features on it. Most importantly, the ability to REMOVE payment information from an account. Right now you have to call them and demand that they remove payment information, then wait 4-6 weeks for them to actually do it. Quite a pain if you bought some points for a child (a nephew in my case) and then try to get your credit card to NOT be associated with their account.

Other high priority features from this list (at least for ME) are:

* Support for headset, Xbox LIVE Vision in Windows Live Messenger.
* Preload Games Library upon dashboard bootup for faster access.
* Support for titles to store installation data on Storage Device for faster loading.
* Download History on Account Management better organized - games, genre, type, download date, miscellaneous.
* Copy non-protected files (pictures, music, videos) from USB storage devices, CDs and computers to proprietary storage devices.
* Calibration options for display/sound.

Its a shame as the list that has been shot down as not official has some very good updates that I would love implemented.

Simple things like a 4 way voice chat in the dashboard would be great since the original Xbox could do it...
