Nintendo guru, Shigeru Miyamoto - forgetting that he was promoting
Wii Fit for a moment - has said that spending endless hours in front of a games machine is... not conducive to good living!
“Spending too long, staying in and playing any video game is not good”, Miyamoto uttered in an interview. “I always tell my children to get out on a sunny day and I, myself, went jogging in Central Park yesterday."
Yes, it would seem that gaming's most venerable figure thinks we need to get out and about for a healthy lifestyle. But where does that leave
Wii Fit? Fear not, in a last-minute save he remembered the game he was supposed to pimp to the masses. "But I do my stretching on
Wii Fit. They work together”, he added.
He also said that Nintendo had some concerns that gamers playing
Wii Fit might destroy their Wiis in anger at the game after being told they were fat and unhealthy. “We thought they might, but the evidence from Japan is that they get cross with themselves — not the machine. They don’t blame the game", he said.
SPOnG, for one, is glad that gamers are smart enough to realise it's not the piece of software aimed at sorting out their fitness that makes them unfit and pillowy - it's the endless beer (or possibly sake) and takeaways.
